Pitch	Level 6 Hardly any errors. Pitch is very accurate. Head voice	Level 5 An occasional isolated error, but most of the time pitch is accurate and secure. Head voice	Level 4 Some accurate pitches, but there are frequent and/or repeated errors. Head voice	Level 3 Some accurate pitches . Chest voice used at times.	Level 2 Very few accurate or secure pitches.	Level 1 Speaking voice, best voice
Rhythm	Level 6 The beat is secure and the rhythms are accurate for the music being sung.	Level 5 The beat is secure and the rhythms are mostly accurate. There are occasional duration errors, but these do not detract from the overall performance.	Level 4 The beat is secure and rhythms are mostly accurate with hesitations. Some repeated duration errors. Rhythm errors detract from the overall performance at times	Level 3 The beat is somewhat erratic. Some rhythms are accurate. Frequent or repeated duration errors. Rhythm problems detract from the overall performance.	Level 2 The beat is usually erratic and rhythms are seldom accurate, detracting significantly from the overall performance. Tone Quality	Level 6 Tone is consistently focused, clear, and centered throughout the range of the voice.	Level 5 Tone is focused, clear, and centered through the normal singing range. Extremes in range sometimes cause tone to be less controlled. Tone quality does not detract from the performance.	Level 4 Tone is often focused, clear, and centered, but sometimes the tone is uncontrolled in the normal singing range. Extremes in range are usually uncontrolled. Occasionally the tone detracts from overall performance.	Level 3 Tone is focused in certain range, usually detracting from the overall performance	Level 2 The tone is seldom focused, clear, or centered regardless of the range, significantly detracting from the overall performance.	Level 1 Mumbles, shouts, sing inappropriately, or will not sing.
Expression and Style	Level 6 Performs with a creative nuance and style in response to the score and limited coaching. Follows melodic direction.	Level 5 Typically performs with nuance and style that is indicated in the score or which is suggested by instructor or peer.	Level 4 Sometimes performs with nuance and style that is indicated in the score or which is suggested by instructor or peer.	Level 3 Sometimes performs with nuance and style that is indicated in the score or which is suggested by instructor or peer.	Level 2 Rarely demonstrated expression and style. Just sings the notes.	Level 1 No expression. Monotonous and uninterested.
Diction	Level 6 Student articulates clearly and the text of the music is understandable.	Level 5 Student articulates the words somewhat clearly and the text can be understood most of the time.
