Paper Mache Masks

Masks were created from newspaper and paper mache using a face mold. Students then designed the masks to add character and personality using inspiration from masks around the world.

Creativity 15 pts Enter description	No Way Man The student did nothing creative to make their mask. The project was also too easy for the student to complete based on their ability level.	Almost There The idea is somewhat original, but the idea for the mask is somewhat popular in our culture. Idea met the appropriate challenge level for the student, but could have aimed to challenge themselves more.	Wow Factor The idea for the mask is very original; idea is brand new and has never been seen before. Idea met and/or exceeded the appropriate challenge level for the student's ability level.
Craftsmanship 15 pts Enter description	No Way Man The student did not paint the mask.	Almost There The student had half of their mask painted neatly, but the other half contained smudges. Color choices/texture/patterns were fine, but could be stronger	Wow Factor The student had very clean edges painted and designed on their mask. There are also no smudge marks present. Color choices/ texture/ patterns were excellent & appealing
Composition (Balance) 15 pts Enter description	No Way Man There is no balance represented on the mask	Almost There The balance on the mask is either halfway symmetrical or there is a 50% appearance of even distribution of weight of elements represented on the mask.	Wow Factor The balance on the mask is either symmetrical in appearance or there appears to be an even distribution of weight of elements represented on the mask.
Artist Statement 15 pts	No Way Man Incomplete/poorly done	Almost There Statement was completed, but was lacking in explanation, entertainment value, personal connection & pros & cons of production	Wow Factor Well written, contained an excellent explanation of spirit animal, and why it was chosen. Statement included personal connections and pros & cons of production
Artistic Behaviour 40 pts	No Way Man Artwork suffered, or was incomplete due to artistic behaviour	Almost There Class time was not used as efficiently as needed. Student was not as helpful to those around him as could have been	Wow Factor The student put forth a lot of effort and had very little down-time. The student used class time wisely and was helpful to those around.
