Does not explain the procedure.

Explains procedure using too much medical jargon, but does convey what is going to happen

Explains in non-medical jargon so that the patient easily understands the procedure

Chooses too large or small of a needle (<22 or >25) and too short or long of a needle (<1 or >1.5inch)

Chooses only one: Correct length or correct size

Chooses both correct length and size of needle

Does not get any aspirate out, or is unable to inject into the joint

Only gets small aspirate (1/4) of a syringe full or only able to inject 1/4 of the syringe, or poor technique and not smooth motions with working the syringe

Able to obtain aspirate (1/2-3/4) or inject 1/2-3/4 of the injection but with a smooth manner and fair technique

Able to obtain full syringe full of aspirate, or inject the full syringe and uses smooth motions and no difficulty with the technique
