Solving Word Problems

Students will solve word problems using math strategies. Students will model the problem with an equation and representation. Students will be able to explain in writing how they found the answers, and will choose the correct operation(s) to solve the problem.

Strategies used	Distinguished The student used multiply strategies that match the math problem effectively.	Proficient The student used 1 or more strategy that matches the math problem correctly.	Apprentice The student used at least 1 strategy but does not match the problem.	Novice No strategy is used. The strategy does not match the math problem or answer.
Explanation	Distinguished The student explained their work in full detail. Explanation is fully correct and matches the problem.	Proficient The student explained their work. Explanation is correct, and matches the problem	Apprentice The student explained their work. Explanation is NOT fully correct, or does not match the problem.	Novice The student did not explain their work.
