Principles of Design - Emphasis
7 pts

Front of garment is sketched. The emphasis is concentrated on a particular place on the design or area of the design. One place on the garment is more noticeable than others. The design has a focal point.

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design and emphis is shown; no evidence of planning.
Fair

The student did the assignment adequately, yet it shows lack of planning and little evidence that an overall composition was planned.
Good

The project shows that the student applied the principles of design while using one or more elements effectively; demonstrated proficient planning and execution of the project
Excellent

Planned carefully, showed an understanding of the principles of design; chose color scheme carefully, used space effectively; demonstrated excellent planning and execution of the project
Principles of Design - Repetition
7 pts

Demonstrate continuous, repetitive, progressive rhythm

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding the of elements and principles of design and repetition is shown; no evidence of planning.

Principles of Design-Gradation
7 pts

Front of the garment sketched. This element will show a gradual increase or decrease of an element of design. Example a color may go from light to dark, a circle may go from large to small, and a line may go from thick to thin.

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design and gradation
is shown; no evidence of planning.

Principle of Desgn Informal Balnce
7 pts

Front of garment is sketched. An asymmetrical design details are divided unequally from the center of the garment. Could be created through the use of color, shape, lines and textures. The designs should still appear to look balanced.

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design and informal balance is shown; no evidence of planning.

Principles of Design-Formal Balance
7 pts

Front of the garment is sketched. Garment is symmetrical, details are equally divided. Both sides should be identical.

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design and formal balance is shown; no evidence of planning.

Principles of Des radial arangement
7 pts

Front of garment is sketched. Lines will emerge at central point like rays. Ex. could be it is created when tucks, gathers, seams, darts, colors, flowing lines. This design This design detail will fan out from central area.

Poor

The assignment was completed and turned in, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design and radial arrangement is shown; no evidence of planning.

Creativity/Originality
4 pts

Poor

The student fulfilled the assignment, but did not demonstrate the exploration of a unique idea or way to visually present the principles of design; preparation was not demonstrated
Fair

The student fulfilled the assignment and made effort to present an original way to visually present the principles of design; average preparation was demonstrated
Good

The student presented a very original idea and made connections to previous knowledge from the class to visually present the principles of design; project was well prepared
Excellent

Demonstrated original thought and planning and obvious time spent on execution; presented a unique idea.
Time on Task
3 pts

Time effectively used in class to do activity.

Poor

Did not used time in effective manner, utilizing no time in class to work on assignment.
Fair

Used time in somewhat effective manner, utilizing some time in class to work on assignment.
Good

Used time in mostly effective manner, utilizing most time in class to work on assignment.
Excellent

Used time in effective manner, utilizing all time in class to work on assignment.
Neatness/Technique
4 pts

Neatly rendered, sketched, and details are added (buttons, zipper, seam lines, top stitching, etc.)

Poor

The designs are not inked out with no shading or rendering. Pencil marks are seen on the design.
Fair

Only 3 or less of the designs are inked out and have no shading of the garment or flat.
Good

All of the garments are inked out with highlights from shading and all of the objects that reflect actual contours. A few details are added to sketches. However, the quality of work is lacking.
