The student made little attempt or did not create a quick pencil sketch of their composition. They used light pencil lines, basic shapes, gesture, contour, and line variation. They made little attempt or disregarded proportions of the landscape.

The student attempted to use light pencil lines, gestural drawing and basic shapes for their composition. They attempted contour line and line variation for the composition.

The student used light pencil lines to create a gestural drawing and used basic shapes of the landscape drawing. They used contour line with line variation to create the landscape drawing. They paid attention to accurate proportions.

The student made little attempt to finish in the required class time. The student took a lengthy amount of time laying out their first layer. More active line and/ or less defined edges would have benefited the piece.

The student made was almost finished in the class time. The student layed out the composition and then began to work on layering their first layer of color. The student began to loosen up with color and worried less about exact definition to their landforms.

The student finished in class time or came in for studio time to complete the drawing. The student layed out the composition and then began to work on layering their first layer of color taking into consideration how the colors that were layered would react together. Great job with giving and "impression" of the landscape and a definate style seemed to be developed!
