Labs
Definition of a Lab

A course that fulfills the laboratory requirement in the Discovery Program will have two components: lecture and laboratory. The laboratory class will meet separately from (and in addition to) the lecture class and will be supervised by a faculty or staff member and/or a teaching assistant.

A laboratory class typically meets once a week and will be at least 90 minutes long. The size of the laboratory sections will not generally exceed 25 students per section.

Course DOES require a lab component

The lab will provide the students hands-on experience that reinforces and supports the material presented in the lecture portion of the course, and teaches them how the discipline uncovers and validates knowledge; how phenomena are understood through observation, experimentation and quantitative analysis; how data are collected and interpreted; how hypotheses are created, modified, and confirmed; and how scientific theories and models are constructed.
