Student is slouched and/or rests his/her instrument or arms on his/her lap or chair

Feet are not flat on the floor.

Student rarely holds instrument with proper playing position (hands are rarely correctly placed; fingers are rarely on home keys).

Trombone: RH holds trombone or RH holds slide with all fingers

Percussion: Sticking pattern is not followed.

Student is slouched.

Feet are flat on the floor sometimes.

Student sometimes holds instrument with proper playing position (hands are inconsistently placed; fingers are not consistently on home keys).

Trombone: LH holds trombone; RH 2 fingers and thumb on slide inconsistently

Percussion: Sticking is rarely followed

Student begins sitting up straight but slouches as he/she plays.

Feet are flat on the floor the majority of the time with some variation.

Student usually holds instrument with proper playing position (hands are usually correctly placed; fingers are usually on home keys).

Trombone: LH holds trombone; RH 2 fingers and thumb on slide the majority of the time

Percussion: Sticking is followed the majority of the time.

Student consistently sits up straight.

Feet are flat on the floor the majority of the time, with few variations.

Student consistently holds instrument with proper playing position (hands are correctly placed; fingers are on home keys).

Trombone: LH holds trombone; RH 2 fingers and thumb on slide consistently

Percussion: Sticking is followed almost always; few mistakes.
