Rhythmic Accuracy

LEVEL 1

Very few accurate or secure rhythms. Performance lacks solid preparation of rhythms.
Student has significant trouble staying with the accompaniment.
LEVEL 2

Some rhythms are accurate, but there are frequent and/or repeated errors.
Student sometimes maintains a steady tempo.
Student is sometimes able to stay with the accompaniment but has many issues with entrances.
LEVEL 3

Rhythms are mostly accurate.
There are a few incorrect rhythms.
Maintains a steady tempo through most of the piece.
Student is mostly able to stay with the accompaniment but has minor issues with entrances.
LEVEL 4

Virtually no errors.
All rhythms are accurately performed.
Maintains a steady tempo throughout.
Student is able to stay with the accompaniment throughout the piece.
Pitch/Intonation

LEVEL 1

Performance is consistenly out of tune. Very few accurate pitches. Performance lacks solid preparation of pitch/melody.
LEVEL 2

Intonation is somewhat inconsistent. Some pitches are accurate, but there are frequent and/or repeated errors.
LEVEL 3

The intonation is secure and pitches are mostly accurate. There are a few incorrect pitches or intonation errors.
LEVEL 4

Virtually no errors. All pitches are accurately performed and in tune.
Diction

LEVEL 1

Student rarely articulates the words and the text is not intelligible.
LEVEL 2

Student sometimes articulates the words, but the words of the text often lack clear beginning and ending consonant sounds.
LEVEL 3

Student articulates the words somewhat clearly/accurately and most of the text is understood.
LEVEL 4

Student articulates clearly & accurately and the text is easily understood.
Musicianship

LEVEL 1

Attention to dynamics is lacking from the performance. Performer rarely demonstrates expression, simply performs the notes.
Rarely creates a flowing line of music.
LEVEL 2

Dynamic levels are inconsistent and performed with some interpretation, but not consistently.
Sometimes creates a flowing line of music.
LEVEL 3

Often performs with appropriate interpretation of music.
Uses most of the dynamic & expressive markings.
Mostly creates a flowing line of music.
LEVEL 4

Performs with creative interpretation of the style of music.
Always uses accurate dynamic levels.
Sings with expression & consistently creates a flowing line of music.
Posture

LEVEL 1

Singer has poor posture throughout the performance.
Singer is tense & shifts weight.
Facial expressions & motions are inappropriate &/or distracting.
LEVEL 2

Singer sometimes uses correct posture but often appears uncomfortable or tense.
Facial expressions are minimal & ineffective.
Sometimes uses distracting motions.
LEVEL 3

Singer usually has correct posture but at times lowers chest or slouches shoulders.
Facial expressions are often appropriate.
LEVEL 4

Singer maintains correct posture throughout the performance.
Singer performs with poise, using a confident stance.
Singer performs with appropriate facial expression throughout.
Memorization

LEVEL 1

Student has only small portions memorized.
LEVEL 2

Student is somewhat memorized.
LEVEL 3

Student is mostly memorized.
LEVEL 4

Student is completely memorized.
