Preparation

This looks to see how prepared the librarian is for the session.

Poor

I arrived when the class is starting, or late. I was not organized and didn't have handouts ready.
Fair

I arrived within 5 or fewer minutes of the class. I have handouts ready but I do not welcome those coming into the class.
Good

I arrived at least 10 minutes before class. I have handouts ready and I welcome students and faculty as they enter into the room.
Welcome

This looks at how the librarian welcomes and sets the stage for library instruction.

Poor

I begin the lecture without an introduction or an overview of the session.
Fair

I give a minimal introduction and then begins lecture without outlining the purpose of the session or mentioning what will be taught.
Good

I introduce myself to the class and provides immediate contact information. I outline the purpose of the class and allow students to share any immediate thoughts and concerns.
Highlighting Main Points

Does the librarian highlight, restate or emphasize the main points.

Poor

I do not highlight, emphasize or restate the main points of the lecture.
Fair

I highlight, restate or emphasize the main points only minimally and don't use visual cues or questions to see if the students really understand the concepts.
Good

I highlight, emphasize and/or restate the main points. I use visual cues and asks questions to make sure that the students understand.
Questions

This measures if the librarian has given students the opportunity to ask questions.

Poor

I do not allow time for questions or do not offer to answer any questions.
Fair

I allow time for questions but do not fully answer them. I do not provide encouraging feedback to students who ask questions.
Good

I encourage questions and always answer them fully. I always respond in a positive manner creating an atmosphere where students are comfortable asking any and all questions.
Conclusion

This looks at how the librarian concludes the session.

Poor

I end the session abruptly with no restatement of the main points and without giving them further opportunity for help.
Fair

I conclude the session, restate the main points and leave right when the class is over.
Good

I conclude the session by restating the main points. I give the students an opportunity to ask questions and I offer to stick around for 5-10 minutes after the session for anyone needing more clarification.
