iRubric: Scale Assessment Rubric

Music has many pitch errors. Attention needed on fingerings and/or partials.

Several errors occur. Most of the intonation is incorrect and there are many wrong notes.

Occasional note is missed, due to key signature, shift or accidental. Basic Tonality can be heard.

Few notes are missed. Mistakes do not detract from music. Most of the intonation is correct and there are no wrong notes.

Excellent accuracy. No mistakes were made, therefore music was performed as written.

Poor sound. Needs more air, volume and consistancy in tone.
Sound is totally lacking in quality due to a poorly formed or weak embouchure/grip and/or no breath support.

Sound not developed. Keep working towards more volume and fundamental tone quality.
Limited projection - tone is poor or range is limited due to the need for a stronger embouchure and/or breath support.

Tone is generally cconsistant. Continue to expand on good fundamentals.
Fair use of projection and fullness of tone. There may be room for improvement in posture, embouchure & breath support.

Tone is developed. Good basic use of air, volume and consistancy in tone.
Considerable use of projection and fullness of tone but still somewhat short of a mature sound.
Tone is full and well projected. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.

Tone is excellent. Great use and air, volume and consistancy in tone

Student is not prepared.

Student has prepared less than half of the test.

Student has prepared about half of the test

Student performs most of the materail accurately. Preparation is decent.

Student performs all scales with control and fluidity. Excellent preparation is evident throughout.
