Student planned carefully, demonstrated an understanding of the elements and principles of design, chose colors carefully, and used space effectively.
Above average

Student applied the principles of design while using one or more elements effectively. The space is filled adequately.
Average

Student did the assignment satisfactorily, yet shows lack of planning and little evidence that overall composition was planned.
Below average

Student completed assignment, but showed little evidence of any understanding of the elements and principles of design, no evidence of planning.
Poor

Student did the minimum or the artwork was never completed.
Creativity/ Originality

Expression of ideas and imagination.

Extraordinary

Student explored several choices before selecting one, made connections to previous knowledge, demonstrated outstanding problem-solving skills.
Above average

Student tried a few ideas before selecting one, solved problem in logical way.
Average

Student tried one idea and carried it out adequately, but lacked originality.
Below average

Student fulfilled the assignment, but gave no evidence of trying anything unusual.
Poor

Student showed no evidence of original thought.
Effort/Perserverance

What it takes to finish the project as well as possible

Extraordinary

The project was continued until it was as complete as the student could make it; gave effort far beyond minimum; took pride in going well beyond the requirement.
Above average

Student worked hard and completed the project, but with a little more effort it might have been outstanding.
Average

Student finished the project, but it could have been improved with more effort. Chose an easy project and did it indifferently.
Below average

The project was completed with minimum effort.
Poor

The student did not finish the work adequately.
Craftsmanship/ Skill

Neatness, precision, care.

Extraordinary

Artwork was beautifully and patiently done; it was as good as hard work could make it.
Above average

With a little more effort, the work could have been outstanding; lacks the finishing craftsmanship and neatness.
Average

Student showed average craftsmanship; adequate, but not as good as it could have been; a bit careless.
Below average

Student showed below-average craftsmanship; lack of pride in finished artwork.
Poor

Student showed poor craftsmanship; evidence of laziness or total lack of understanding.
Cooperation/Attitude

Attitude during class time; willingness to complete set up, art practice and clean up tasks.

Extraordinary

The student is always willing to complete assigned tasks and help set up and clean up projects; works very well with others.
Above average

The student is usually willing to complete assigned tasks and help set up and clean up projects; works well with others.
Average

The student is sometimes willing to complete assigned tasks and help set up and clean up projects; works somewhat well with others.
Below average

The student is rarely willing to complete assigned tasks and help set up and clean up projects; sometimes works well with others.
Poor

The student does not show willingness to complete assigned tasks or help set up and clean up projects; does not work well with others.
