Hand/Finger Placement

1.3.2.B.3 Demonstrate correct playing techniques for Orff
instruments or equivalent homemade instruments

Exemplary

Hands and fingers are always in the correct placement. Student can accurately describe the playing posture and reasons it works. Students further demonstrates understanding by modeling for the class and helping other students achieve correct hand/finger placement.
Satisfactory

Hands are in the correct placement. Fingers are all correct after one or two tries. Reasonable approximation of correct angle of instrument and posture.
Developing

Hands are in the right order. Fingers are all correct after three or four tries. Angle of instrument and playing posture are incorrect, but student corrects himself when given direction.
Showing Little Progress

Hands are in the wrong order. Fingers are not placed where they are supposed to be. When given 5 or more tries with direction, the student can show correct hand position and fingers are correct.
Does not meet expectations

Cannot verbally express how to place finger for notes or show on a flashcard. Student will not take direction when helped by another student or the teacher.
Singing Concert Music

1.3.2.B.2 Demonstrate developmentally appropriate vocal
production/vocal placement and breathing technique.

Exemplary

Student sings with accurate pitches throughout the piece in both the low and high parts of your vocal range. Student further demonstrates understanding by other means (composing a vocal exersize for the songs, or sightreading)
Satisfactory

Student sings with only one or two pitch inaccuracies, but overall, the performance is concert worthy.
Developing

Student sings with no more than 4 pitch inaccuracies, but overall, the performance is accurate.
Showing Little Progress

There were more than 50% pitch problems in your presentation. You are struggling to sing correctly on your part. Greater focus and attention are necessary in order for your grade to improve.
Does not meet expectations

Student does not know the song and can't sing accurately even in a group He/she has put no effort into learning it for our performance.
Note Accuracy

1.3.2.B.1 Clap, sing, or play on pitch from basic notation in the
treble clef, with consideration of pitch, rhythm,
dynamics, and tempo

Exemplary

No mistakes. Correct notes played. Correct fingering with excellent sealing of all holes. Student further demonstrates understanding by creating a worksheet for another student to complete.
Satisfactory

Little to no mistakes. The notes were very close to the written or they were all correct. Correct fingering with little or no squeaking or poor seal.
Developing

Some mistakes, but overall, the notes played were close to the written music. Close or hesitant fingering with noticeable squeaking from poor seal of holes.
Showing Little Progress

Many mistakes. The notes played were not close to the written music. Consistently incorrect fingering with regular squeaking and poor seal of holes.
Does not meet expectations

More than 50% of the notes are played inaccurately with incorrect fingering, squeaking, and poor seal of holes.
Rhythmic Accuracy

Exemplary

Confident, steady and correct rhythm played with no mistakes.There is a definite underlying pulse and each note was held for full rhythmic value. Student further demonstrates understanding by playing solo unassisted by the teacher.
Satisfactory

Good steady rhythm. each note was held for its full rhythmic value. No major mistakes.
Developing

Rhythm is somewhat steady but there were a few mistakes. Some notes were not held for their full rhythmic value.
Showing Little Progress

No steady rhythm. Lots of breaks and pauses. No note was held for its full rhythmic value.
Does not meet expectations

Student is not able to hold note for full rhythmic value when asked verbally.
