iRubric: Graphic Essay rubric

Image is large and dominates paper. Is unique, thoughtful, bright, con-conformist. Use of color and materials demonstrate insight, thought and planning. Has that "aah-hah!" factor.

Image is large. Materials used support importance of image to theme and novel but not as high as a score of "4". Begins to develop an aah-hah factor.

Unremarkable Anchor image does not predominate or is too small to anchor the graphic essay. May be slightly incomplete--demonstrates need for additional time and materials.

Lacks an anchor image. Anchor image is too small to command the attention of the viewer. Image does not connect thematically with the text or the image is poorly or hastily executed. Large poster or size equated with quality. Demonstrates need for time and additional materials/effort.

Project looks great. The selections of colors and materials and anchor image choice support the text and its themes uniquely and creatively. Project may be three dimensional. Time and effort (at least several days) is clearly apparent in this project. Materials are new, well packaged and joined. Demonstrates textual engagement.

Project looks good! Colors and materials generally suport the anchor image and theme, although attention to detail may be lacking. Demonstrates good textual engagement.

Project looks rushed or hastily assembled. Lacks brainstorming and planning. Elements may be too small to see or grab the viewers attention.

Does not look like a graphic essay. Elements may be too small to be visible or understand their importance. Equal weight given to too many items.
