Mock Trial Rubric--Member of the Jury 
This rubric will evaluate the participation of a student "juror" based on involvement, performance, attitude, work product, and "citizenship" (Ok, I needed another category for 10 points and couldn't come up with one!)

Excellent

Student is constantly engaged in the class activity. Student does not need reminders to stay on task.
Above Average

Student is often engaged in the activities. Student could participate more in class activity, but is never causing a distraction.
Average

Student is often engaged in the activity. Student needs a reminder to get back on task and can be distracting to teacher and classmates.
Poor

Student is not involved with the class activity. Student needs constant reminders to get back on task. Student is distracting to the class as a whole.
Performance

Excellent

Student responded while taking their oath; was attentive during the trial and took notes; student participated in deliberation; student completed the verdict form.
Above Average

Student responded while taking their oath; was attentive most of the time during the trial; took notes most of the time; student participated in deliberation; student completed the verdict form.
Average

Student mumbled while taking their oath; was attentive some of the time during the trial; took notes some of the time; little participation during the deliberation; student completed the verdict form.
Poor

Student did not respond while taking their oath; student was not attentive during the trial; student took few, if any notes; little or no participation during deliberation; student did not complete the verdict form.
Attitude

Excellent

Student is positive about the activities being learned in class and sets the example for students around him/her.
Above Average

Student is positive about the activities being done in class.
Average

Student is neutral about the activities. Student spreads mixed feelings around the class, both positive and negative.
Poor

Student has a negative attitude. Student makes the experience bad for others around him/her.
Work Product

Excellent

Student actively participated in jury deliberation and helped guide the jury at arriving at a fair verdict based on the evidence.
Above Average

Student participated in jury deliberation to a degree and helped the jury arrive at a fair verdict based on the evidence.
Average

Student contributed minimally to deliberations. Was of little assistance to other jury members in arriving at a fair verdict. (eg: wanted a verdict based on his/her friend's(s') roles in the trial; just went with the group.
Poor

Student did not participate at all in jury deliberations, (eg: was observed on cell phone). And/or contributed negatively to deliberations in arriving at a verdict not based on evidence.
Citizenship

Excellent

Student completed his/her civic duty as a juror and receives ten points as compensation.
Above Average
Average
Poor

Student did not complete his/her civic duty as a juror and a bench warrant will be issued for arrest.
