  Standing

I am still on a journey to understand how to integrate the elements of choreography and to relate my process and its connection to culture.

(N/A)

Waltzing

I am traveling in the right direction. I am grasping the elements that empower my choreography as a tool of expression and cultural exploration.

(N/A)

Flying

I understand and embrace the extension of dance into real life. I can see both the particular and universal purpose for dance through my own creative process.

(N/A)

Addressing criteria

Develop choreography that is
consistent with the style and
the intent of a performance theme

Standing

We did not fully realize or comprehend the style. I did not design each movement of the study specifically and with detail. I developed a movement with gross considerations only.
Pts possible: 0 1 2 3 4
Waltzing

We tried but fell a little short of comprehending and demonstrating the style of the genre. I did pay attention to the detail of each particular step of the movement study. I performed the movement with some attention to detail but gave into wanting to finish.
Pts possible: 5 6 7 8
Flying

We consistently applied my concentrated effort and the manifestation of the style of the form. I gave great attention to each, individual step of each movement phrase/study. I made certain to take my time and perform each step fully and clearly to reveal the essence of the form.
Pts possible: 9 10
Body Language & Movement

Dance is made up of streams of movement and pauses, so action refers not only to steps and sequences but also to pauses and moments of relative stillness. This will address gesture and business created by the body.

Standing

We did not demonstrate the physical gesture, maintain my posture, and execute body movements to effectively demonstrate the intention
Pts possible: 0 1 2 3 4
Waltzing

We tried but fell a little short to demonstrate physical technical movements reflecting the genre. I did maintain my posture, and body movements to effectively demonstrate the particular painting and effects
Pts possible: 5 6 7 8
Flying

We consistently demonstrated physical gestures through technical movements that reflected the genre.I maintained and reconfigured my posture, and body movements to effectively demonstrate particular and specific effects
Pts possible: 9 10
Effort During Prep/Performance

Dance is a form of movement art and a mode of cultural expression. Throughout my creative composition, I explored the way anthropologists investigate meanings and themes

Standing

We did not put time, energy, and thought into the preparation and presentation of my movements as culturally grounded or informed/informing.
Pts possible: 0 1 2 3 4
Waltzing

We tried but fell a little short to put forth better effort into the preparation and presentation of my movement studies. I could explain my intention but did not link the dance to a cultural component.
Pts possible: 5 6 7 8
Flying

We put the best time, energy, and thought into the preparation and presentation of my movement studies. I was able to articulate the reason for this piece or form. I was able to add to the greater conversation of dance scholarship.
Pts possible: 9 10
Reflective of Painting/Elements

Choreographic choices depict voluntary, planned sequences or actions within the movements in response to the effects within and the painting itself. The piece is a clear response to the painting and received conscious thought.

Standing

We did not put time, energy, and thought into the reflexivity and presentation of the painting or the elements as clearly grounded or informed/informing.
Waltzing

We tried but did not quite reflect the painting's meaning nor its particular elements. They were suggested but not always clear.
Flying

We took the time to think about our painting and to be sure to have our movements reflect both the painting as a whole and the particular elements introduced.
