Meets Standard

Student chooses an appropriate word for the pattern and reads it mostly correctly, with maybe a small hesitation or quick self-correction.
Approaching Standard

Word only partially matches the pattern OR student has noticeable difficulty decoding it without support.
Below Standard

Word does not match the requested phonics pattern, or student is unable to decode the word independently.

Exceeds Standard

Picture clearly and directly matches the chosen word, and it helps make the meaning of the word obvious.
Meets Standard

Student reads the word accurately with slight hesitation or a small self-correction.

Student is choppy or unsure when reading the word and needs some support.

Student cannot read the word independently.

Student reads the short sentence smoothly and with appropriate phrasing, showing clear understanding of the words.
Meets Standard

Student reads the sentence accurately with minor hesitations.

Student can read some of the sentence but struggles with multiple words or flow.
