Less than 10% use of Tool
Refusal to Use and/or watches adult use for the student
Fully dependent

11-40% use of tool

The student is showing an interest and understands how to use the tool, rarely writing or using it themself however.
Moderate Dependence

40-74% use of Tool

Requires specific prompting of student to use tool. Student is beginning to use it and writes/uses it with adult cues . Adult may still have to set it up.
Minimal Dependence

This may require open ended questions and sometimes leading a student to use it. They can use it after prompting to do so with writing themself, or directly asking adult to help.
Independent

Student looks for tool, sets it up and refers to it with little to no prompting by adult. Student may still ask for help when needed.

None

Does not show interest nor have means to create a compensatory tool
Fully dependent

Acknowledges adults idea for need for tool use and minimally participates in creation of choice of tool use.
Moderate Dependence

Recognizes need for a tool to assist in task or goal with adult assistance and communicates with adult about type of tool and its use.
Minimal Dependence

Identifies a situation to use a tool and begins its creation/use with supervision and input from adult
Independent

Identifies a need for a tool (checklist, list, calendar, appointment scheduling, etc) and independently creates and/or uses it.
The key here is that the use of the tool becomes reinforcing to completion of goal/task
