Connecting Grid Portrait 
Students will use to images, one a portrait and the other a connecting image to the selected person. The two images will be weaved together keeping a ratio of 12 to 12, 11 to 13, or 10 to 14. Total number of boxes will be 24. Small photograph will be 6 inches by 9 inches with each box being 1.5 inch boxes. The large final paper will be 12 x 18 inches, with 3 inch boxes. Students will use shading pencil and colored pencil to complete the drawing.

Two Image Selection & Composition

Portrait selection and connecting image. Portrait selection contains values and is challenging enough for student's level.

Value is used in a somewhat expressive way. Values have been blended showing proficiency.
Needs Work

Value is used in an average way. Value is added to some features and shading somewhat reflects the actual value of the photograph portrait.
Not Proficient

Value is single toned. Little to no value is added to enhance features. Shading is not used and does not reflect the value of the portrait. No blending seen and dramatic jumps in value where there are none in the photo.
Craftsmanship

Overall the finished drawing appears complete and cleaned up. Paper was taken care of.

Advanced

Student completes artwork purposefully with high level of craftsmanship. Drawing is neat, clean & complete. Student has taken extra care in the presentation of the piece and it is not wrinkled, torn, or otherwise “distressed”.
Proficient

Student completed the artwork with a good level of craftsmanship and has few smudges or unclean lines. The paper has little wrinkles, tears, or distressing.
Needs Work

Student completed the artwork with several smudges, unclean lines. Paper is torn, has multiple wrinkles and distressing.
Not Proficient

Student completed the artwork without concern for craftsmanship. Did not take care of their paper.
