Small Engine Project Small Engine Project This assessment is based on as an individual lab on our engines portion of the program. The students are all using running Briggs and Stratton engines. The student will disassemble the engine according to the manuals instructions and clean all the parts. With the engine fully disassembled the student will then present to the instructor a short oral explanation of the parts and the jobs the preform in the engine. The student will reassemble following instructions in the manual and run the engine. Grading Criteria
	Excellent 10 pts	Good 7 pts	Fair 4 pts	Unacceptable 1 pts
Job Completion	Excellent The engine was 100% complete and worked according to the task description. Had spark and compression.	Good The engine was complete and worked, but needed minor modifications. Had spark and compression.	Fair The engine was complete but did not work; needed several minor modifications. Engine had either spark or compression.	Unacceptable The engine was incomplete and engine assembly was not complete. Engine did not have spark or compression.
Demonstrated Knowledge of Theory	Excellent Student knows and is able to identify and explain necessary theories for engines and cooling systems	Good Student is able to identify and explain necessary theories for engine and cooling systems with some assistance.	Fair Student is unable to identify or explain concepts of engines and cooling systems without major prompting.	Unacceptable Student is unable to either identify or explain any related theories to the engine or cooling systems.
Use of Time	Excellent Student was on task 95% of time or more. Did not need reminders to be on task.	Good Student was on task 84%-94% of the time. Had one or two reminders to be on task	Fair Student was on task 74%-84% of the time. Had three or four reminders to be on task.	Unacceptable Student was on task less than 73% of the time. Had five or more reminders to be on task.
Application of Safety Practices	Excellent Student followed all safety rules with 0 reminders.	Good Student followed most safety rules, may have forgotten one Example: safety glasses off once	Fair Student attempted to follow safety rules but failed to meet standards two or more times.	Unacceptable Student made no effort to follow safety rules. Regularly did not wear safety glasses.
Use of Tools/Materials	Excellent Used all tools and materials appropriately. Did not damage any parts.	Good Used tools or materials inappropriately 1 time. Damaged 1 part.	Fair Used tools or materials inappropriately 2 times. Damaged 2 parts.	Unacceptable Used tools or materials inappropriately 3 or more times. Damaged 3 parts.
