Level 2 Written responses to the text reflect a basic understanding of the text read, through the use of visualizations that are based on some of the author's language.	Level 3 Written responses to the text reflect a true understanding of the text read, through the use of visualizations that are based on the author's language.	Level 4 Written responses to the text reflect a deep understanding of the text read, through the use of visualizations that are clearly based and supported with the author's language.
Support and Evidence	Level 1 Responses include little to no support, with some misunderstanding of text evident.	Level 2 Responses include some support and show some understanding of the text read.	Level 3 Responses include clear text support and a clear understanding of the text read.	Level 4 Responses include multiple text support, cited evidence, and reflects an understanding that goes beyond the text read.
New Understanding	Level 1 Response lacks a new understanding.	Level 2 Response demonstrates some new understanding.	Level 3 Response demonstrates basic new understanding.	Level 4 Response demonstrates a deep new understanding.
