Clay Slab Box Clay Amplifier Students will create a design for a clay slab box. The box should have a theme in order to add a two different decorative techniques on the entire project and embellishments on each face of the box. The other requirements are an interlocking lid and sized between 4" and 7". Rubric Code: G2335W8 By DelRay11 Ready to use Public Rubric Subject: Arts and Design Type: Project Grade Levels: 9-12

Clay Slab Box
	Fair 6 pts	Good 9 pts	Excellent 12 pts
Box theme	Fair Student picked an easy and quick design. Student used an idea from slideshow instead of coming up with their own design.	Good Student chose a design thats creative, but could have added more details to make it "Excellent".	Excellent Student chose a well thought out theme to add to the sculpture, something detailed intricate to add to the clay on the box.
Construction	Fair Clay structure is messy and unbalanced in a way that demonstrates limited degree of care in construction and no attention to detail. Project ended up broken in the end. Box does not meet size requirement. The lid falls off the sculpture.	Good Clay is constructed nicely, but parts of the sculpture show roughness and could have been smoothed out more. Box is slightly larger than requirement. Lid does not have interlocking pieces or a handle.	Excellent Sculpture is strong, neat, and balanced in a way that demonstrates control of media used. Sculpture stayed together in one piece. Box meets size requirement and has an interlocking lid and handle that doesn't slide off the top of the sculpture.
Decorative techniques	Fair No embellishments or decorative techniques were implemented into the clay box.	Good One decorative technique is visible on the clay slab box. Some of the box faces have added details and some do not have any added decorations.	Excellent Two decorative techniques were implemented into the finished clay box. Each face of the box has some type of decorative piece on it.
Glazing	Fair Sculpture was painted quickly, and many spots were left unglazed. The glaze breaks the unity of piece	Good Sculpture is glazed satisfactory, and is covered appropriately. Glaze corresponds with overall unity of piece, but some spots were left unglazed or the thin in application.	Excellent Sculpture was glazed carefully, neatly and appropriately. The overall piece is thoughtfully assembled in a manner that enhances overall unity of piece.
Time	Fair Student finished project late, or turned in an incomplete project. Failed to use class time wisely. Unfocused/talkative/distracted.	Good Student finished project on time, fully glazed and complete. Made good use of class time, but a little bit more time could have made the project excellent.	Excellent Student finished project on time, fully glazed and creatively completed. Made great use of class time.
