C.E. Participation/Active Engagement 
Community Engagement - provides a wide variety of opportunities to facilitate and build relationships and natural supports in the community, while utilizing the community as a learning environment. These activities are conducted at naturally occurring times and in a variety of natural settings in which the individual actively interacts with persons without disabilities.

Individual does not respond or engage in activities at all. No acknowledgement of others within his/her community.
Fair (gestural)

Individual makes very little effort, gives very little attention to others in the community, does not make an effort to act upon his/her environment without multiple prompts.
Good (verbal)

Individual makes some effort to show action of engagement with others in his/her community and makes progress towards independent achievement of activity requirements, with minimal prompts.
Excellent (independent)

Individual sufficiently indicates independent acts to connect to others within his/her community, acts constructively to meet criteria of activities, makes progress on improving skills to enhance the development of natural supports.
Participation

v. to share, to seek out, to partake, to make associations or connections with others in the community

Poor (physical)

Individual does not respond to, walk towards, acknowledge or seek to enter venue of community activity. Individual does not respond to being introduced to others or activities within his/her community in order to make associations.
Fair (gestural)

Individual makes little effort to walk towards, enter, or acknowledge venue or to seek others within venue to meet activity requirements. Individual requires multiple prompts to share, partake, and make connections with others.
Good (verbal)

Individual makes some effort to enter venue, seek out others to make connections and associations, and partakes in ongoing activities with others within his/her community with minimal prompts.
Excellent (independent)

Individual independently enters the venue, seeks out others and activities within his/her community. Makes sufficient efforts to improve upon skills of association, natural support development and personal connections with people in the community.

Individual does not respond to his/her community environment. Fails to respond, act or interact with people or things.

Individual makes little effort to respond, act, or initiate interaction with people or things to complete activity requirements. Individual requires multiple prompts to respond, act or effect change in his interactions with his/her community to gain a relationship or supports.
Good (verbal)

Individual makes some effort to respond, act and interact with others or things to effect change in his/her community relationships or natural supports. Individual requires minimal prompts to complete activity requirements.
Excellent (independent)

Individual independently respond, acts and interacts with people and things in his/her community to effect change towards building relationships and natural supports. Makes sufficient effort to establish community relationships and natural supports.
