Foundations of Nursing II Class Participation Grade 
(40 points: ) Below is a chart that shows you exactly how your class participation grade will be determined. All students are expected to attend and participate in class. Forms of participation other than speaking up during class discussion (although this is a primary form of participation) include coming to me for extra help, giving other students feedback in class, adhering to the use of electronic devices only for academic purposes, and consistent attendance.

Student is absent from class one or more times, or more than 5 min late three or more times.
LEVEL OF ENGAGEMENT AND BEHAVIOR

Meets expectations

Student often asks questions, and/or participates in discussions. Volunteers to assist others in class. Electronic device is used exclusively for academic purposes.
Moderately less than expectations

Student sometimes asks questions, and/or participates in discussions. Volunteers 2-3 times to assist others. Electronic device is used exclusively for academic purposes.
Does not meet expectations

Student never participates in class, and/or struggles with discussions. Seldom volunteers to help others. Electronic device is used for personal use (i.e., texting) one or more times.
PROFESSIONALISM

Meets expectations

Respects instructor and classmates. Addresses instructor appropriately. Does not use derogatory or belittling/condescending language.
Moderately less than expectations

Disrespects instructor and classmates sometimes. Sometimes addresses instructor appropriately. Sometimes uses derogatory or belittling/condescending language.
Does not meet expectations

Frequently disrespects instructor and classmates. Inappropriately addresses instructor other than Mr, Ms, or Mrs. Frequently uses derogatory, belittling or condescending language.
