Goli Kplekple Mask 
This rubric will assess a 3-D art project used in conjunction with a Social Studies unit on the Kplekple tribe in Africa. There are three levels of performance and four artistic aspects for the project.

Meets Expectations

The students shows adequate understanding of the project which is portrayed in the development of the mask.
Exceeds Expectations

The student exhibits exceptional knowledge and understanding of the project and thoroughly recreates the mask in accordance to the manner of the Kplekple tribe.
Composition

Below Expectations

The student's mask contains no real focus. The mask lacks the necessary properties that depict the subject matter. (i.e. lack of color and decoration). The student does not demonstrate the principles and elements of art in the project.
Meets Expectations

The student's mask contains clear focus on the subject. The student uses adequate decorations to create the mask with noticeable qualities of the Kplekple masks. The student has demonstrated understanding of the principles and elements of art in project.
Exceeds Expectations

The student's mask is a close replication of an original Kplekple mask. The student has mastered the task of creating focus on the distinctive properties of the mask and shows exceptional knowledge of the principles and elements of art in project.
Dimensionality

Below Expectations

The student has created a mask that is flat or has very little dimension. The student appears to have failed to understand the object of the 3-D project.
Meets Expectations

The student has created a mask with several dimensional properties (or regions of dimension). The student understands the concept of dimensionality and has attempted to create a mask using those properties.
Exceeds Expectations

The student has created a life-like mask with extraordinary dimensional properties. The student displays clear understanding and mastery of depth perception and dimensionality concepts.
Execution

Below Expectations

The student completed the project using poor quality of craftsmanship. The student uses one or two tools in order to complete the mask.
Meets Expectations

The student completed the project using good quality of craftsmanship. The student uses several tools or media to construct the mask.
Exceeds Expectations

The student completed the project displaying excellent mastery of quality and craftsmanship. The student uses multiple forms of media and tools in order to construct the mask in inventive ways.
