Word Usage	Beginning Student's use of vocabulary is very basic.	Developing Student's use of vocabulary is more telling than showing.	Accomplished Student's use of vocabulary is routine and workable.	Exemplary Student's use of vocabulary is precise, vivid, and paints a strong clear picture in the reader's mind.
Poetic Techniques	Beginning Uses few poetic techniques.	Developing Uses some poetic techniques to reinforce theme.	Accomplished Uses poetic techniques to reinforce theme.	Exemplary Effectively uses poetic techniques to reinforce theme.
Spelling/Grammar/Punctuation	Beginning May contain frequent and numerous errors in spelling, grammar, and punctuation that interferes with the reader's understanding.
