Excellent Work
Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the piece. It is clear the student worked hard and paced their process along with the different drying times of the materials.
Good Enough
Acceptable use of time for the most part. Student was productive, but could have put in more time and effort in work. Student could have developed sketches/design more, student could have exerted more effort. The details are minimal and rough.
Fair- Satisfactory
Class time was not always used wisely, but student did complete the animal. Class time was wasted.
Poor Quality
Class time was not used wisely and the student put in little effort. Student did not create piece to the best of his/her ability.
Creativity- Gesture
Excellent Work
Completely original. The student personified an animal creatively.
The student's personality/ style comes through. There are additional items which add to the narrative created by the piece. There are areas of interest and GESTURE: movement is implied in the pose.
Good Enough
Student has taken the technique being studied and has used source material as a starting place. The work is not completely original.
Animal shows some personification. There is a tilt or GESTURE implied.
Fair- Satisfactory
Student has copied some of the design from the source material. There is little evidence of creativity, but the student has done the assignment.
The animal is stiff and does not have any GESTURE.
Poor Quality
Student has not made much attempt to meet the requirements of the assignment. Student did not stretch themselves artistically, learn, or try anything new.

Excellent Work
Student has used more than one modeling technique and presented a piece that is detailed, balanced, smooth, has even thickness, and shows evidence of time spent. The student experimented with surface texture, decoration, added elements.
Good Enough
The clay piece is smooth and orderly. Detail has been skillfully added to enhance the piece. The student experimented some with the surface, form, and attempted to progress from previous works. Some surface experimentation has been added.
Fair- Satisfactory
The clay piece is complete, and is smooth and orderly, but lacks details and finishing add ons that make the work unique and interesting. Student is not open to new ideas or new techniques, or chooses not to improved.
Poor Quality
The clay piece does not use the techniques appropriately and is uneven or sloppy, in general no care or concern is evident, or piece is unfinished. Finished in one sitting.
Finishing Details- Presentation
Excellent Work
Paint is applied skillfully and in predetermined areas.
The student experimented with surface decoration, texture, small details are evident. The student clearing has planned the surface decorations
Good Enough
The paint applied shows careful planning and control. All color is applied in appropriate areas.
The paint looks smooth and complete, some evidence of experimentation or growth.
Fair- Satisfactory
The paint applied is somewhat organized and controlled. Some areas are uneven or left unattended to. No evidence of trying any new techniques.
Poor Quality
Little, if any, paint has been applied and is sloppy and uncontrolled.
OR it is incomplete. Sloppy paint is applied, no care or concern for even application. Not open to adding new techniques.
