Homecomeing Week News Package 
Students are to use basic elements of broadcast and story telling to complete a news package. The news package will include B-Roll, and Intro, Voiceover, an Interview, and a wrap-up.

Pre-Production / Script Writing

Poor

The ideas are not fluent or still need to be developed. Holes exist in the story. The script is under developed and lacks personality. The script lacks the broadcast style.
Fair

Package is introduced, but does not encourage vierwer to keep watching. The script has potential but the production staff fails to go beyond the basic coverage of the story. There is a lack of creativity.
Good

The reporter and production staff adequately cover the event. Elements of the broadcast style are utilized; the voiceover is factual, the viewer can tell there was a plan and the plan was fully developed from beginning to end.
Excellent

Introduction grabs viewer attention and creates questions in the viewer's mind about the story. there are no holes in the story. The reporter goes beyond the basics. The script matches the footage, the NAT is clear and concise story is fluent from beginning to end.
Interview

Poor

Interview questions are not delivered with warmth, interviewer does not follow up on answers or shows no interest in answers. Reporters lacks personality. Reporter or interviewer seem easily distracted or disengaged. Framing is off at segments. Volume during interview is low.
Fair

Interviewer asks questions mechanically and does not acknowledge the value of the answer. The reporter seems timid and uncomfortable on camera. The broadcast style is apparent, but stiff in motions.
Good

Questions are logical and aimed at the topic, Subjects do not look directly in the camera but at each other, the interview flows well and the reporter and interview personality is shown. Background scenery aids in the interview and is not distracting. Framing is effective.
Excellent

Interviewer asks logical questions, is enthusiatic, and asks follows up questions where appropriate; viewer is watching a conversation. Reporter and Interviewer are engaged, Interview has depth and mic and sound during the interview are fluent.
Video/ B-Roll/ Voiceover

Poor

Shots are not creative or are poorly framed. Footage captured is not relative to the story and is not cohesive. Voice over is monotone and lacks personality. The video does not capture viewers attention.
Fair

Footage is very basic and B-Roll does not bring creativity to the story. Video has basic shots. Voice over has little personality but lacks enthusiasm.
Good

A variety of shots and angels are used. Video, B-Roll, and voiceover are all relevant to the story. Voice over has personality and enthusiasm. Video captures attention of the viewer.
Excellent

B-Roll, Video, and Voiceover are effective and creative, all elements aid in the overall story. There is personality and enthusiasm. Video not only catches viewers attention but is memorable.
Editing

Poor

Editing was ineffective in telling the story or was incomplete. Scenes jump from one location to another. Video has lots of unstable movement, frames and shots are distracting. Audio is inconsistent. Video is hard to follow and does not capture viewer attention
Fair

The piece is adequately put together but is not seamless. Some audio or video have glitches and cause a little distraction. Video is easy to follow, but leaves viewer with no reason to continue watching.
Good

The piece is seamless and shots flow well creating a fluent video production. The piece is edited at a relatively moderate pace, all footage is properly utilized, and most elements of a broadcast are apparent. Video captures and keeps viewers attention.
Excellent

Shots, audio, and video are all seamless and fluent. Footage was used to make the video creative and stands out. The pace is moderate and all broadcast elements are apparent. Video represents the topic well and leaves viewers wanting more.
Overall Impression

Poor

Package does not conclude logically and misses a sign off. Overall video has many missing elements. Shots and footage are choppy, the interview segment is boring. The voice over is monotone. The piece lacks fluency.
Fair

The package has a weak conclusion, and does not leave the viewer with a complete story; there is no sign off. But there is an attempt to use all elements of the broadcast. Personality and creativity lack in the overall production process. However the project is mostly complete.
Good

Conclusion is thorough and includes a sign off. The piece is fluent has personality and creativity. The interview flows well, voiceovers are clear, audio and video are precise.
Excellent

Conclusion is not only complete and has a sign off, it leaves the viewer wanting more. All elements of a broadcast are apparent to the viewer. The video exemplifies all expectations.
