Engineering Design Process

Imagine	Beginning Little or No evidence of imagine was seen.	Emerging Some evidence of imagine was observed.	Proficient Good evidence of thinking and brainstorming about what was going to be built.	Exemplary The student really thought through what they were going to build/design in order to contribute to their group.
Plan	Beginning Little or no evidence was planned out. They did not plan what they were going to build nor plan on what materials to use in the building.	Emerging Some evidence of a plan. There was some thought to materials/building, but not really thought out.	Proficient Good evidence of planning done. Materials were listed and thought out, but the plan wasn't quite complete.	Exemplary I can really see what you are going to be building. All materials were listed and well thought out.
Design	Beginning Your design lacked materials that were needed. It was really hard for me to tell what you built or were building.	Emerging Some materials were used correctly.	Proficient Good use of the materials and plan. The catapult was nice and well put together, but there were parts that weren't well made.	Exemplary Great use of materials! You maximized your use of materials and created a great working catapult.
Criteria - distance	Beginning Projectile went 0-49.	Emerging Projectile went 50-100 centimeters.	Proficient Projectile went 101 10 160 centimeters.	Exemplary Projectile went at least 200 centimeters.
Time Management	Beginning Did not use time well. Time was wasted during the imagine, plan, and design phase of engineering.	Emerging Sometimes used time well. There were times when the group got off task during the imagine, plan, and design phase.	Proficient Good use of time, there were a few times when the group got off task, but for the majority of the task time was well spent.	Exemplary Great use of time. The group stayed on task during each phase of the process.
Participation	Beginning All or Some group members had to be reminded several times to stay on task.	Emerging Most group members participated during the building process. The group had to be redirected a few times.	Proficient The majority of the group members worked together and didn't have to be redirected that much at all.	Exemplary All group members worked together flawlessly and got the job done. The group never had to be redirected.
