Scratch Art Drawing 
Student will etch a portrait of a non-human subject of choice with texture onto a 8 1/2 x 11 scratchboard. The lines used must show visual texture and/or pattern, and the space must be utilized well. The student must have a monogram of their initials in the drawing. Frame development is based on time available to student .

Design and creativity

Creativity defined as- student took much planning and thought into what their portrait subject will be and have a justification for the reason they chose the subject they did.

Level 1

The student shows an undeveloped knowledge and application of art elements (line, shape , color, etc...) and little creativity in the subject of the portrait, the texture/ patterns used, and the use of the space on the page.
Level 2

The student shows a developing knowledge and application of design elements and shows some creativity in the subject of the portrait, the texture/ patterns used, and the use of the space on the page.
Level 3

The student demonstrates knowledge and application of design elements and shows creativity in the subject of the portrait, the texture/ patterns used, and the use of the space on the page.
Level 4

The student shows an advanced knowledge and application of design elements and principles (Use of color, balance, visual rhythm, harmony, unity, variety, etc...) and shows excellent creativity in the subject of the portrait, the texture/ patterns used, and the use of the space on the page.
Follows Directions
20 pts

Level 1

The student does not follow the directions regarding drawing texture/ pattern and subject selection. The project and the preliminary work was unattempted. The student has not signed their work.
Level 2

The student attempts to follow the directions regarding drawing texture/ pattern and subject selection with much deviation. The subject is human, the work is just begun, there is little texture/ pattern use, the subject is vaguely distinguishable from the background, and the student partially completed the preliminary exercises. The student's monogram is on the back of their work.
Level 3

The student mostly attempts follows the directions, with some success. Subject is non-human, the project is nearly complete, the background and subject are clear, the student used some texture/ pattern, and the student completed all preliminary exercises that led to the final. The student's monogram is too small to read.
Level 4

The student follows the directions precisely with little or no deviation. Subject is non-human, the project is complete, there is a clear background and a clear subject, the student used texture/ pattern, and the student completed all preliminary exercises that led to the final. The student's monogram is visible on the front of their work.
Craftsmanship
20 pts

Etching.

Level 1

The student does not make efforts to learn the new techniques. Resulting in torn paper, unclear lines, haphazard scratching, and messy work.
Level 2

Craftsmanship and neatness are not consistent. There are some areas of the work where the student exercised neatness and precision, but the majority of the piece is sloppy, careless, or executed incorrectly. The paper is torn in many places.
Level 3

The student demonstrates good or adequate craftsmanship and neatness. The lines are clean, the sketching is intentional and used well, there are little to no signs of sloppiness or carelessness. A few minor tears.
Level 4

Excellent craftsmanship is demonstrated. The student used the techniques learned in class to create a superior work with no sloppiness or carelessness. All texture/ pattern is intentional and well used. The lines are clean and the paper is not torn.
