	Excellent Student possesses exemplary skill and mastery of all techniques needed for a successfully delivered dramatic performance. 70 pts	Good Student possesses sufficient skill and mastery of all techniques needed for a successfully delivered dramatic performance. 56 pts	Fair Student is in need of additional skills and mastery of the techniques needed for a successfully delivered dramatic performance. 49 pts	Needs Improvement Student possesses little to no skill and/or mastery of the techniques needed for a successfully delivered dramatic performance. 40 pts
Introduction 25 % How well does the introduction explain the signficance of the selection?	Excellent Introduction clearly explains the significance of selection Includes name of title and author	Good Introduction attempts to explain signficance of selection Includes name of title and author	Fair Introduction mentions selection signficance Includes either name of title or author	Needs Improvement Introduction does address significance of selection Does not include title or author name
Selection 25 % Does the prose selection best reflect the novel and its theme and appeals?	Excellent *Selection is well-chosen, and the themes and appeals are evident.	Good Selection provides some insight to themes and appeals.	Fair Selection does not make an indirect or direct reference to an important theme in the novel.	Needs Improvement Selection does not meet criteria.
Voice 15 % Does the student use her/his voice as an instrument to propel their performance?	Excellent Student consistently uses their voice expressively and articulately. Student projects their voice clearly. *Student utilizes their voice to include variations of pitch, rate, volume, and tone consistent to their character.	Good Student enunciates clearly. Student varies voice pitch and tone, and reflects some level of expressiveness.	Fair *Student strives to enunciate and add variations, but overall effect is flimsy - due to too little expression.	Needs Improvement *Student exhibits poor vocal enunciation and no variations in volume and/or pitch.
Poise 15 % Does the student use the body movement and control to propel their performance?	Excellent Student looks at the audience and makes eye contact with audience during key parts of their reading. Student controls body movments and moves body in a way to reflect the reading.	Good Student is mostly looking at the audience and makes eye contact with audience during the reading. Student controls body movments.	Fair Student looks at the audience occasionally and attempts to make eye contact during the reading. Students body movements do not reflect the reading.	Needs Improvement Student does not make any eye contact Student sways or moves with little or no purpose.
Preparation 20 % How much time did the student spend in preparation for their performance?	Excellent Student fluidly delivers her/his lines while hitting their marks confidently. Student obviously spent a significant amount of time on project and came to class ready and prepared.	Good Student delivers lines and hits marks well and with few errors. Student spent an appropriate amount of time preparing for project.	Fair *Student lacks any fluidity in movement and delivery of lines; did not spend nearly enough time in preparation.	Needs Improvement *Student has no fluidity and is obviously not prepared.
