Choral Assessment Rubric
Students in Polyphonic and Concert Choir will be assessed each quarter using the following rubric.

No talking, or other disruptive behavior during rehearsals.
Excellent

Very little disruptive behavior, including talking during rehearsals.
Good

Sometimes may be disruptive, or talking during rehearsals.
Fair

Frequently disruptive, or talking during rehearsals.
Poor

Is disruptive every day during rehearsals.
Participation
10 %

Superior

Participates with enthusiasm and energy, exceeding expectations.
Excellent

Participates at an acceptable level on a consistent basis.
Good

Participation level varies from acceptable to less than acceptable from rehearsal to rehearsal. Not consistent.
Fair

Participation level is very low with timid singing and a lack of energy.
Poor

Almost never participates in class.
Appears disinterested in class.
General Attitude
10 %

Superior

Shows leadership qualities and a positive attitude. Is a mature student who sets the example for others.
Excellent

Has a good attitude most of the time and is pleasant during rehearsal.
Good

Attitude varies from rehearsal to rehearsal. Some days are positive while other days a lack of maturity and respect are exhibited.
Fair

Does not seem enthusiastic about participating in choir. May exhibit immature or disrespectful behaviors.
Poor

Shows a complete lack of desire for learning. Contributes nothing to his or her own learning and distracts from the learning of others.
Focus During Rehearsal
10 %

Superior

Student follows the thought process of the director during rehearsal. Student anticipates what will happen next. Student is ready to sing and knows where we are all the time.
Excellent

Student pays attention most of the time in rehearsal but may not be completely engaged in the process. They maintain an acceptable level of focus most of the time.
Good

Student is frequently disengaged from the rehearsal process. May be talking or creating distractions that interfere with the success of the group.
Fair

Student comes to choir to socialize. Does not exhibit an understanding of the rehearsal process or their role in the rehearsal.
Poor

Student often seems unaware of what is going on in rehearsal, and is preoccupied with other interests or tasks that have nothing to do with Chorus.
Musicianship
10 %

Superior

Sings in tune with musicality. Exhibits sensitivity to blend, dynamics and artistry of the song. Constantly growing as a musician.
Excellent

Sings in tune but does not seek to grow as a performer in regards to musicianship.
Good

Sings with little sensitivity to others. Has difficulty blending, following dynamics or capturing the essence of a song.
Fair

Sings without thinking. Does not approach singing as an artistic endeavor. Exhibits little to no musicianship.
Poor

Rarely sings accurate pitches or rhythms. Tone quality is often out of tune and produced poorly.
Concert Participation
40 %

Superior

Attends all concerts.
Excellent

Missed one concert.
Good

Missed two concerts.
Fair

Missed three or more concerts.
Poor

Missed more than one concert during the school year.
