- Word 'becomes' the
object

Excellent/Masterful

Illustration was completed on time. All directions were followed and all project criteria were incorporated in it. Excellent job making the word 'become' the actual object.
Good/Skilled

Illustration was completed on time following directions. Most of the project criteria were incorporated into it. Object well represented.
Adequate/Able

Illustration almost completed on time but not all directions followed and not all criteria incorporated into project. Illustrated object is adequately represented.
Below Average/Apprentice

Overall design

- Visual appeal
- Use of Elements and
Principles
- Details drawn in
- Use of 'add-ons' to
enhance its look
- Does it look 3-D? Have "thickness"?

Excellent/Masterful

Illustration has excellent overall appeal; Visually interesting to look at, well balanced and parts work together. Well "accessorized" with add-ons and details when appropriate, colors appealing and appropriate to the object. Shows form giving a 3-D appearance
Good/Skilled

Illustration has good overall appeal and fairly interesting to look at. It is fairly well balanced and unified and looks to be thoughtfully planned out. Color used appropriately shows fairly good 3-D form.
Adequate/Able

Illustration is ordinary in design. Not quite completely balanced. Some pieces work together, some may not look connected. Contains a few simple add-ons or details and there has been an attempt at showing depth (3-D) to the object.
Below Average/Apprentice

Illustration has been poorly constructed. Layout not planned out well, if at all. Any details or add-ons (if there are any) appear disconnected and floating. Object has a mostly 2-dimensional feel - either doesn't show depth or it's not represented well.
Poor/Novice

No design consideration put into illustration. Work lacks any add-ons or details and use of design principles is not evident. Object shows only 2-D shape, no form or depth.
Creativity

- Originality in design- Use of graphical elements

Excellent/Masterful

Totally original design, used some elements of designs seen and sketched from reference materials as inspiration.
Good/Skilled

Most of the illustration's elements are unique, some elements may be copied from reference materials.
Adequate/Able

Some aspects of the illustration are unique, but several elements are copied from reference materials or other students.
Below Average/Apprentice

The illustration is a copy of one seen in source material or one made by another student. Majority of elements are copied.
Poor/Novice

No creativity shown in illustration.
Craftsmanship/Techniq.

- Neatness
- Smooth blending
- Solid color laid down
- Pencil lines erased

Excellent/Masterful

The word illustration looks carefully planned. Skillfull use of colored pencils - good solid pencil coverage, layered and well blended colors. It is made neatly and original pencil lines do not show/are erased.
Good/Skilled

The word illustration looks well planned. It is made fairly neatly with only a few white spots showing through the colored areas and mostly smooth blends. Mask is solid and Pencils used well.
Adequate/Able

The word illustration looks somewhat thought out. There are several unwatned flaws that detract from the appearance somewhat. blends not as smooth as they could be. Colored pencil use is somewhat sloppy.
Below Average/Apprentice

The word illustration looks thrown together at the last minute. It appears that little design or planning was done. Many major flaws (sloppy coloring, lots of whit e showing through color) in the illustration. Color is not laid down uniformly, blends not smooth.
Poor/Novice

No planning shown. Little to no skill is shown in the use of materials.
Effort

Appropriate use of:
- Time in class
- Time spent out of class

Excellent/Masterful

Class time was used wisely. Much time and effort went into the planning and design of the mask. It is clear the student worked outside of class as well as at school.
Good/Skilled

Class time was used wisely. Student could have put in more time and effort out of class.
Adequate/Able

Class time was not always used wisely, but student did do some additional work outside class.
Below Average/Apprentice

Class time was not used wisely and the student put in little to no additional effort outside of class.
Poor/Novice

No effort was seen being put into project either during class time or out of class.
