	Excellent 4 pts	Above Average 3 pts	Average 2 pts	Below Average 1 pts
Description	Excellent Makes a complete and detailed description of the subject matter and/or elements seen in a work.	Above Average Makes a description of most of the subject matter and/or elements seen in a work.	Average Makes a description of some of the subject matter and/or elements seen in a work.	Below Average Descriptions are not detailed or complete.
Analysis	Excellent Student demonstrated understanding of design elements through the use of correct art terminology and was able to clearly describe and discuss artwork	Above Average The student demonstrated some awareness of basic design elements and was able to describe and discuss artwork.	Average The student demonstrated satisfactory awareness of the design elements and briefly described and discussed artwork.	Below Average The student demonstrated very little awareness of basic design elements and made no effort to describe or discuss artwork.
Judgement	Excellent Uses multiple criteria to judge the artwork, such as composition, expression, creativity, design, communication of ideas.	Above Average Uses 1-2 criteria to judge the artwork	Average Tries to use aesthetic criteria to judge artwork, but does not apply the criteria accurately.	Below Average Evaluates work as good or bad based on personal taste.
Understanding of Process	Excellent Students can describe what a critique is in their own words and list the steps (Describe, Analyze, Judge)	Above Average Students can describe what a critique is in their own words and list 2 out of 3 steps	Average Students can describe what a critique is in their own words and list at least one of the steps	Below Average Student made an attempt but could not come up with a definition for a critique or list any of the steps correctly.
