Black History Month Book Report 
Students will create a medal to honor the person about whom they have read. Inside the medal will be a written report about the person's life and contributions to society.

Award

Award states person's name and author's name. There is a neatly hand-drawn picture of the person. The award is titled "Medal of Honor."

Student followed most of the directions. Illustration is displayed in a creative way.
Good

Student is missing 2-3 parts of the directions. Student put some effort into the project, but could have spent more time on details.
Poor

Student is missing many required parts. Medal lacks neatness and appears rushed.
Written report

Infomation is in logical orander and will include 3 paragraphs. The first paragraph: Where was the person born? Where did the person grow up? go to school? who were his/her family?
Paragraph 2:
What does/did this person do for a living? Why is this person famous? What did/ does this peson do to become famous?
Paragraph 4:
Why does this person deserve to earn this award? How has this person made an impact on others?

Superior

The student wrote each paragraph with detail and in logical order. The student used complete sentences with appropriate vocabulary. There was proper punctuation, capitalization and spelling.
Well Done

The student wrote each paragraph in logical order, but the vocabulary is limited. There are a few errors in spelling and/or punctuation.
Good

The student did not provide the information of three paragraphs. Information was not presented in logical order. There were significant mistakes in spelling and punctuation.
Poor

Inaccurtate and/ or incomplete information. Many mistakes in spelling, punctuation and sentence structure.
Oral presentation

Report is presented clearly and in a logical order. The speaker gives good eye contact, volume and posture.

Superior

Student spoke in an interesting manner with appropriate volume and eye contact.
Information presented was interesting and understandable.
Well Done

The student demonstrated an understanding of what they had read. Presentation may not have been clear or completely understandable.
Good

Student demonstrated understanding of the book, but poorly presented this to classmates.
Poor

Student demonstrated some understanding of their book, but failed to present an understandable report.
