Always Usually sits or stands with the head up, shoulders straight, arms at the correct angle, feet on the floor, and back straight land not leaning on the chair, if sitting.
Good

Usually sits or stands with the head up, shoulders straight, arms at the correct angle, feet on the floor, and back straight land not leaning on the chair, if sitting.
Fair

Sits or stands with with head down, shoulders down and forward, arms resting on body, feet crossed, fully extended or not touching the floor, and back bent.
Developing

Does not attempt, nor make efforts to improve proper posture.
Tone Quality

Excellent

Tone is full and well projected. A truly characteristic sound for the instrument.
Good

Considerable use of projection and fullness of tone but still somewhat short of a mature sound.
Fair

Limited projection - tone is poor or range is limited due to the need for a stronger embouchure or better focrum/breath support.
Developing

Sound is totally lacking in quality due to a poorly formed or weak embouchure/grip (focrum) and/or no breath support.
Technique

Excellent

Playing position is correct and hand & finger position are correct to allow for good technical facility.
Good

Playing position is good but there are minor errors in hand or finger position.
Fair

Some effort is being made to hold the instrument correctly but performance is hindered by poor hand and finger placement.
Developing

Instrument is not held in the proper playing position. Right and/or left hand position is incorrect.
Pitch

Excellent

Pitches are correct and has a quality sound for that instrument.
(1 mistake or less)
Good

Mostly correct with a few errors in pitch or rhythm.
(2-3 mistakes)
Fair

Many notes are incorrect
- student seems unfamiliar with the tune.
(6 or more mistakes)
Developing

No recognizable tune is present.
Rhythm & Pulse

Excellent

Steady pulse with accurate rhythms.
Good

Steady pulse with few rhythmic errors.
Fair

Pulse is unstable with major rhythmic errors.
Developing

No evidence of steady pulse
