Comedic Scene 
Students are to create a 5 minute comedy skit and present it to the class. Ancillary props are optional, but you must use the prop chosen in class in some capacity in your scene. Scenes cannot be vulgar, crude, racist, profane or school inappropriate.

Excellent

The humorous scenarios were of superior quality and caused audience to laugh at key times. The jokes were appropriate to overall skit sequence and theme. The setting and characters were specific, with a well-defined POV.
Good

The humorous scenarios were funny, but didn't really connect with the audience as well as they could. The scenarios were appropriate to overall skit sequence and theme. The setting and characters could have perhaps been a bit more specific.
Fair

The scene could have been more specific or expanded in further directions. More attention to detail is needed.
Needs Improvement

The comedic premise may have been inadequate and/or did not make sense. The jokes were inappropriate to overall skit sequence and theme.
Poor

The jokes included profanity or inappropriate scenarios and/or lacked creativity.
Length/Engagement

Excellent

The presentation lasted for at least 5 minutes and was engaging the audience the whole time. Prop is used appropriately in an interesting context.
Good

The presentation lasted for at least 4 minutes and was engaging, but perhaps lagged at points. Plot could have been bit more developed.
Fair

The presentation was 3 minutes and/or didn't really engage the audience. Plot shows a few weaknesses.
Needs Improvement

The presentation was less than 3 minutes and clearly did not and engage the audience at all. The voice used was muffled. There was no special effort made to connect with the audience.
Poor

The presentation was less that 1 minute. The voice had no energy. No effort used to develop material. Plot is unoriginal. Lack of rehearsal or development is apparent.
Comedic Techniques/Types

Excellent

The original jokes incorporated the 10 comedic techniques and types of comedy.
The techniques are appropriate and fit the theme.
Good

The comedic techniques incorporate used a few techniques but perhaps more could have been employed, or they could have been more specific.
Fair

A few types of comedy are apparent, but it is not clear that performers understand the nuances of these techniques, or are not willing to commit to them in performance.
Needs Improvement

The comedic scenarios do not show an understanding of either the micro-level of comedy (the types indicated in class) or the macro-level of comedy (the 10 ingredients for a comic premise.)
Poor

The scene lacked creativity, and overarching point or purpose, or did not demonstrate a use of any comedic techniques presented in class.
Projection/Animation

Excellent

All members of the group remained committed to the scene, mature in his/her delivery, and worked as an ensemble. Voices were able to be heard by audience members.
Good

A few group members were quiet, or not as engaging as the others. One performer may have dominated the ensemble. Performers may have been immature, lack interest in the scene, or broken character. This affected the overall group dynamic.
Fair

Scene is "just OK." No one seems particularly interested in watching it or performing it.
Needs Improvement

Performers are too quiet, immature, don't work together or don't seem very animated or committed to the scene.
Poor

The scene is boring--performers are apathetic. Scene shows little understanding or interest in refining the range of comedic techniques for an effective performance.
