Plant Growth Compare & Contrast 
Students will measure, record, graph, draw & write about the growth of 2 plants. One plant will receive all 4 items necessary for growth. One plant will be missing an item necessary for growth.

The students will draw a picture of their plants for 4 weeks (total of 8 drawings). The students will label the plant parts of each drawing: stem, leaves, fruit, roots, flower, seeds, but only the parts of a plant that are present when drawing, so it is accurate compared to their own plants.

1. Write 1 paragraph (4-5 complete sentences) comparing both plants.
2. Write 1 paragraph contrasting both plants (containing 4-5 sentences.

The student writes 2-4 sentences comparing and contrasting their two plants. The sentences contain 5 or more spelling and or grammatical errors.
Fair

The student writes 2 paragraphs that compare and contrast their two plants. The paragraphs have 1 incomplete or run on sentence. The writing sample contains 3-4 spelling and or grammatical errors.
Good

Student writes 2 paragraphs that compare and contrast their two plants. Both paragraphs contain complete sentences. The writing sample contains 2 or fewer spelling and or grammatical errors.
