AVID College Research Paper Presentation Rubric

Your college research paper must be accompanied by a short (5-7 Min) presentation. Refer to rubric for expectations of excellence. If you need help with resources, please contact me. Total available points 100 + 25 extra credit.

	Excellent 25 pts	Good 20 pts	OK 10 pts	Poor 5 pts
Introduction	Excellent Introduction uses an attention-grabber, states thesis statement (why this is the college/university that best suits your needs), and previews main ideas.	Good Introduction is missing ONE of the opening elements: attention-grabber, thesis statement, or preview of topics.	OK Introduction is missing TWO of the opening elements: attention-grabber, thesis statement, or preview of topics.	Poor Speech begins without an official introduction.
Organization	Excellent Presentation is very organized and was very easy to follow. Transitions between topics are smooth.	Good Presentation is fairly organized and pretty followable. Transitions might have been slightly discontinuous but did not take away geatly from the overall presentation.	OK Presentation is not clearly organized. Transitions between topics are jumpy or awkward.	Poor Presentation lacks organization. Presentation lacks order and is difficult to follow.
Content	Excellent Student has a strong hold on the content and content is thoroughly addressed. No mistakes are made with regard to content knowledge. Content PROVES thesis.	Good Student has a basic understanding of the content. Content is missing minor elements or contains minor errors. Thesis is supported.	OK Student has only a superficial or limited understanding of content. Several mistakes were made during the presentation. Thesis not proven or supported.	Poor Student has little to no understanding of the content addressed in the presentation. Thesis not proven.
Stage Presence	Excellent Student speaks with a strong voice, maintains eye contact with audience, gestures naturally, and shows preparedness.	Good Student fails to either speak with a strong voice, maintain eye contact, or use natural gestures.	OK Student struggles with stage presence in TWO or more areas.	Poor Student is obviously unprepared or "winging" it.
Poster/PowerPoint/Video Extra Credit 25 pts	Excellent Visual aid clearly shows topic and facts to support both sides. Images used effectively to enhance presentation. Aid is visually pleasing and does not distract from speaker.	Good Visual aid fails to do ONE of the following: include topic, facts from both sides, use images effectively, or images are visually pleasing.	OK Visual aid fails to do TWO things:include topic, facts from both sides, use images effectively, or images are visually pleasing.	Poor Visual aid fails to do THREE or more things: include topic, facts from both sides, use images effectively, or images are visually pleasing.
