Art Criticism Essay

Description Section	Poor Description of work of art was weak, missing, incomplete or lacked use of the elements of art application.	Good Description of work of art was included but used improper application of the elements of art or identified too few examples or unclear.	Excellent Description of work of art was complete. Student used the application of the elements of art to comprehensively describe the work.
Analysis Section	Poor Students analysis shows a lack of understanding of the application of the elements of art with the principals of design. Essay is poorly written or undeveloped.	Good Student's analysis was based on the principals of design as applicable. Student sited areas used to do so. The analysis could have been more developed in regard to principals, elements or the combination.	Excellent Student's analysis of the work of art utilized the principals of design in the appropriate application to critique the work. Specific areas were noted in the analysis. The writing reflected a good comprehension of the process.
Interpretaion	Poor Interpretation is missing or merely touched upon. The student did not provide sufficient information to communicate their perception or did not site specifc areas of the work to support their interpretation.	Good Interpretation included the artist's intent, through the student's perception of the expressive qualities in the work. Student's feelings invoked by the work were presented. Student lacked some in either siting specifics or fully exploring qualities of the artist's intent or their impression.	Excellent Interpretation fully described the student's perception of the artist's intent, siting specifics to illustrate. The student iincluded personal feelings invoked by the work along with the expressive qualities.
Judgement	Poor Judgement was missing or student did not present the judgement as a cohesive process.	Good Student note a judgement based on the critial process but reasoning behind it was lacking or missing.	Excellent Student presented a judgement on the success of the work based on the critical process. Student noted reasons behind the judgement.
