Pitch Accuracy	Exemplary Performed all pitches correctly.	Proficient Performed most of the pitches correctly.	Emerging Many of the pitches are performed incorrectly.	Poor Most pitches are performed incorrectly.
Rhythmic Accuracy	Exemplary Performs all rhythms correctly.	Proficient Most of the rhythms are performed correctly, with few errors.	Emerging Some basic rhythms are performed correctly; however, has challenges with some rhythms.	Poor Most of the rhythms are performed incorrectly.
Musicianship	Exemplary Student performs the piece with appropriate dynamics, phrasings, and articulation.	Proficient Most of the dynamics are followed, and most of the articulation signs are observed. Most phrases are performed correctly.	Emerging Some dynamics are observed. Some articulation is performed. Some phrases are complete and musically accurate.	Poor No dynamics. No use of articulation. Most phrases are performed incorrectly.
Posture	Exemplary Excellent posture Student stands with feet shoulder width apart, hands at side 100% of the time--needs no reminders from the teacher. Emerging Fair Posture Student stands with feet shoulder width apart, hands at side 50% of time. Student needs several reminders from teacher and may have some additional movement.	Poor Poor Posture Student does not stand with feet shoulder width apart, hands at sides in spite of frequent reminders from teacher.
Focus during performance	Exemplary Student pay attention to the teacher 100% of the time. During performance, student maintains eye contact with audience.	Proficient Student pay attention to the teacher 80% of the time. During performance, student maintains eye contact with audience 80% of the time. Eye contact is resumed after a reminder.	Emerging Student pay attention to the teacher 50% of the time. During performance, student's eye contact with audience is not consistent. Student may seem distracted	Poor Student is distracted during the performance. Eye contact with the audience is sporadic.
Rehearsal Effort and Behavior	Exemplary Student is on task and giving effort 100% of the time. Teacher does not need to remind this student about what is expected during rehearsal.	Proficient Student is on task and giving effort 80% of the time. Teacher gives an occasional reminder to this student about what is expected during rehearsal. After the reminder, the student regains focus.	Emerging Student is on task and giving effort 50% of the time. Teacher frequently reminds this student about what is expected during rehearsal. After the reminder, the student regains focus.	Poor Student is generally distracted and may be a distraction to the entire rehearsal process. Teacher reminds student continually about what is expected during a rehearsal.
