Georgia O'Keefe Painting

Students will be asked to duplicate one of the selected paintings using watercolor. This is an observational drawing/painting. The goal is to make their painting as close to the original as possible.

The Observational Drawing	Exceeds the Standard Student creates excellent reproduction of the selected painting. Scale, dimensions and detail of the drawing are highly accurate.	Above the Standard Student creates good reproduction of the selected painting. Scale, dimensions and detail of the drawing are accurate.	Meets the Standard Student creates acceptable reproduction of the selected painting. Scale, dimension and detail are mostly accurate with some errors. Some lines are shaky, too wide or too narrow.	Below the Standard Student creates mostly acceptable reproduction of the selected painting. Scale, dimension and detail are accurate, but there are a number of errors. Multiple lines are shaky, too wide or too narrow.	Unsatisfactory Student's reproduction of the selected painting is not recognizable. There are many errors with scale, dimension and detail.
Quality of Watercolor Technique	Exceeds the Standard Student demonstrates high level of accomplishment in utilizing transparency. All dark values are built from layering of paint and colors. Brush strokes are clean and wide.	Above the Standard Student demonstrates proficient level accomplishment in utilizing transparency. Most dark values are built from layering of paint and colors. Brush strokes are mostly clean and wide.	Meets the Standard Student demonstrates an acceptable level of accomplishment in utilizing transparency. Some dark values are built from layering of paint and colors. Some brush strokes are clean and wide, with some loss of stroke technique.	Below the Standard Student demonstrates an below average level of accomplishment in utilizing transparency. Few dark values are built from layering of paint and colors. Brush technique is below average and does not demonstrate techniques practiced in class.	Unsatisfactory Student demonstrates a poor level of accomplishment in utilizing transparency. There is little demonstration of layering and brush strokes are rough.
The Color Scheme	Exceeds the Standard Student has demonstrated excellent replication of color in relation to the original painting with the majority of the painting accurate.	Above the Standard Student has demonstrated above average replication of color in relation to the original painting with 80% of the painting accurate.	Meets the Standard Student has demonstrated average replication of color in relation to the original painting with 60% of the painting accurate.	Below the Standard Student has demonstrated below average replication of color in relation to the original painting with 40% of the painting accurate.	Unsatisfactory Student has very little replication of color in relation to the original painting with 20% of the painting accurate.
Gradation	Exceeds the Standard Student carries out gradation at a high level with all shapes fading from dark-to-light indicating a light source.	Above the Standard Student carries out gradation at an above average level with the majority of shapes fading from dark-to-light indicating a light source.	Meets the Standard Student completes gradation at an average level with most of the shapes fading from dark-to-light indicating a light source.	Below the Standard Student completes gradation at a below average level with a some of the shapes fading from dark-to-light without indicating a light source.	Unsatisfactory Student does not complete gradation with very few of the shapes fading from dark-to-light and no light source indicated.
Reflected Color	Exceeds the Standard Student reflects all color and demonstrates warm and cool blends of color consistently throughout the painting.	Above the Standard Student reflects the majority of colors and demonstrates warm and cool blends in the majority of the painting.	Meets the Standard Students reflects at least half of the colors and demonstrates warm and cool blends in at least half of the painting.	Below the Standard Student attempts to reflect color but is not successful in most cases. The re is an attempt to blend warm and cool colors but this is not successful.	Unsatisfactory Student does not attempt to reflect color or blend warm and cool colors.
Effort	Exceeds the Standard Student carries out assignment to completion, goes far beyond the requirements.	Above the Standard Student works diligently and completes assignment beyond basic requirements.	Meets the Standard Student completes assignment with basic interpretation of requirements.	Below the Standard Student completes assignment and is sometimes off-task	Unsatisfactory Student does not complete assignment and is often off-task
