Midterm Topical Paper 
Students will utilize this rubric to gain knowledge of the expectations for the midterm topical paper. This paper should be 2-4 pages, and will not be accepted past the due date. The topical paper can be over any topic that is of interest to the student, but must be approved by the instructor first.

Thesis statement or topic sentence is clear and concise. Content is accurate, comprehensive, and persuasive. Major points are stated clearly and are well supported. Purpose and content is concise and easy to follow.
Organization and Structure 20 pts.

Poor

The paper is very difficult to follow due to inadequate organization and structure. Paragraphs lack consistancy and transitions.
Fair

The paper is a little hard to follow at times due to structure and organization. Paragraph transitions were attempted, but needs improvement.
Good

Paragraph structure is clear and easy to follow throughout the paper. Effective implementation of transitions!
Grammar,Punctuation&Spelling 20 pts

Poor

Numerous punctuation, grammatical, and spelling errors are present. Use of jargon or inappropriate conversational language. Little to no attempt at clarity of good language is present.
Fair

Few punctuation, grammatical, and spelling errors are present. Use of some jargon or inappropriate conversational language. Language lacks clarity, but the attempt of good language is noticeable.
Good

Grammar, usage, and punctuation rules are followed; and spelling is correct. Clear and precise language. Strong and consistent sentence structure.
Format 10 pts.

Poor

Many elements for correct formatting are not included. Paragraphs are inadequate/excessive in length. Bibliography was not cited appropriately.
Fair

Most of the guidelines were followed correctly. Paper is over/under page length. Bibliography was successful, but had a few errors.
Good

Paper follows designated guidelines. Paper length is appropriate. Bibliography was cited correctly and with no more than two errors.
