Sewing Projects Rubric This rubric will assess the the completion and skill levels of various sewing projects.
	Distinguished 20 pts	Proficient 15 pts	Basic 10 pts	Below Expectations 5 pts
Professional Appearance No loose threads are found in the project.	Distinguished Overall appearance is professional with no loose threads evident.	Proficient Overall appearance is acceptable with no more than 1 loose thread evident.	Basic Overall appearance needs improvement with 2 or more loose threads evident.	Below Expectations Overall appearance is unacceptable with 3 or more loose threads evident.
Stitch Formation Stitches are correctly formed according to step by step directions for each of the project.	Distinguished Stitches are exceptional in project and could be used as a teaching example to assist others.	Proficient Most stitches are formed correctly in project.	Basic Some stitches are formed correctly in project.	Below Expectations Stitches are not formed correctly in project.
Stitch Uniformity Stitches are evenly spaced the correct distance apart or of the same length.	Distinguished Stitches are exceptioinally evenly spaced the correct distance apart or of the same length.	Proficient Most stitches are evenly spaced the correct distance apart or of the same length.	Basic Some stitches are not evenly spaced the correct distance apart or of the same length.	Below Expectations Stitches are not evenly spaced the correct distance apart or of the same length.
Knots Knots are formed properly, hidden from view and secure in the project.	Distinguished Knots are formed properly, secure and there are no knots visible in the project.	Proficient Knots are acceptable, mostly secure with no more than 1 knot visible in the project.	Basic Some knots are acceptable, mostly secure with no more than 2 knots visible in the project.	Below Expectations Knots are unacceptable, mostly insecure with 3 or more knots visible in the project.
Time Management Time invested in making project and being helpful to others in the process of making project.	Distinguished Student exhibited exceptional time management skills by being self-directed and on task during the sewing lab.	Proficient Student exhibited time management skills by being self-directed and on task during the sewing lab most of the time.	Basic Student exhibited time management skills skills by being self-directed and on task during the sewing lab some of the time.	Below Expectations Student did not exhibit time management skills, showed litte or no self-direction and was off task during the sewing lab.
Project Completion The designated project is completed using step by step instructions.	Distinguished Completed project received on time.	Proficient Completed project recieved.	Basic Project recieved with 1 step not completed.	Below Expectations Project received with 2 or more steps not completed.
Creativity Student's completed project demonstrates use of design elements (line, space, texture, color) to personalize project.	Distinguished Student consistently incorporated design elements to personalize and craft the sewing project.	Proficient Student used design elements to personalize and craft the sewing project.	Basic Student used limited design elements to personalize and craft the sewing project.	Below Expectations Student did not exhibit design elements to personalize and craft the sewing project.
