Communication Technology - Production Trailer
The following rubric will be used to assess your second major video sequence, completed largely or entirely in Premiere Pro. Once again, we may ask to see your Premiere Pro timeline which should demonstrate evidence of the editing you have done. Notice that a more significant focus of this project is on the 'Effectiveness' of your trailer in terms of its content, organization, pace, and overall ability to generate interest and excitement in the production.

Trailer Effectiveness
Content & Organization

(20 marks)

Excellent

All content is engaging and relates strongly to P.C.C.s production. Content fits the tone of a trailer, effectively generating excitement. It is extremely well and logically organized with a clear beginning, middle, and end, without giving too much away.
Good

Most content is engaging and related to P.C.C.s production. Content generates reasonable excitement about the production. It comes close to having the feeling of a trailer and is mostly well organized with a beginning, middle, and end.
Satisfactory

Some content is related to the production, but some seems out of place. It generates some excitement about the production, but likely needed more work done in the planning stage, or more engaging content. It is partially organized, but may be lacking a clear structure.
Needs Improvement

Little of the trailer's content is related to the production. The content used appears more as a disconnected series of shots, with no real unity. It generates little or no excitement about the production. It lacks organization and does not possess a clear beginning, middle or ending.
Creativity & Originality

(10 marks)

Excellent

The trailer you have created is creative and original, and does not rely too heavily on one or even several forms of other media to generate interest and excitement. You have between 30-60 seconds of original shots, pictures, media, etc. which is original and directly related to P.C.C.
Good

Your trailer strives to be creative and original, and uses a reasonable variety of supporting media to generate interest. You have between 15-30 seconds of original media that is original and strongly related to P.C.C.
Satisfactory

Your trailer, though potentially well composed, is not very creative or original, and consists mostly of a somewhat limited variety of media, the majority of which does not strongly relate to P.C.C. or its production.
Needs Improvement

Your trailer has no real creativity or originality. You rely far too strongly on 1 or 2 different sources of media, neither of which reflect P.C.C. or give viewers a glimpse of what to expect from the production.
Sequence, Pace & Timing

(10 marks)

Excellent

There is a clear beginning that hooks the viewer. Clips are just long enough to make each point clear. The pace captures audience attention. The final shot is an effective, interesting conclusion to the trailer. The final sequence is between 2-3 minutes long.
Good

Your trailer's introduction is mostly effective at hooking the audience. Your sequence moves at a mostly steady pace, fast enough to keep the audience interested and slow enough to make sense of the trailer. The final sequence is shorter than 2 or longer than 3 minutes.
Satisfactory

Your sequence's beginning may be too slow or too fast and confusing. The trailer moves at a pace that is a little too slow or a little too fast and hectic, causing the audience to lose some interest. The final sequence is shorter than 1:30 or longer than 3:30 minutes.
Needs Improvement

Your opening and closing shots are poorly chosen and to do not begin or end the sequence effectively. The pace is far too slow, or far too fast, and the trailer does not maintain audience interest. The final sequence is shorter than 1:15 or longer than 4 minutes.
Production Quality
Media Use (Clips, Images, Sounds)

(10 marks)

Excellent

The various graphics, music, and sound are extremely well chosen and assist in presenting an overall theme that appeals to the audience. All multimedia elements are of high quality, work well together and demonstrate excellent synthesis.
Good

The various graphics, music, sound, shots and animations visually depict material and assist the audience in understanding the flow of information and generate interest. Images are proper size and resolution. Multimedia elements are appropriate and enhance the presentation.
Satisfactory

The variety of media you use is somewhat limited. Some of the graphics, sounds, music, and/or animations seem unrelated to the production and do not enhance concepts. Images are clipart or recycled from the WWW, and may be too large or small in size. Multimedia elements support the presentation occasionally.
Needs Improvement

The graphics, sounds, music, and/or animations are unrelated to the content. Graphics do not enhance understanding of the content, or are distracting decorations that create a busy feeling and detract from the content and purpose.
Video Editing

(15 marks)

Excellent

The video sequence is composed of very high quality shots and edits. The video moves smoothly from shot to shot. Shots and scenes flow seamlessly, and there is significant evidence of editing.
Good

The video is edited throughout with only good quality shots remaining. The sequence flows mostly smoothly from shot to shot. There is strong evidence of actual video editing to create an original and effective product.
Satisfactory

The video is partially edited, but large segments appear mostly copied and pasted. Several poorly chosen shots remain. There are many unnatural breaks and/or early cuts, and little evidence of editing to improve the final product.
Needs Improvement

The video is mostly unedited and many poor shots remain. Raw clips run back to back in the final video. Very little or no attempt to edit/create your own video sequence.
Audio & Voice Editing

(10 marks)

Excellent

The audio is clear and effectively assists in communicating the main idea. Students communicate ideas with enthusiasm, proper voice projection, appropriate language, and clear delivery.
Background audio is kept in balance and does not overpower the primary audio. There is significant evidence of actual editing.
Good

The audio is clear, but only partially assists in communicating the main idea. Students communicate ideas with proper voice projection, adequate preparation and delivery. Some evidence of actual editing.
Satisfactory

The audio is inconsistent in clarity (too loud/too soft/garbled) at times and insufficiently communicates the main idea. Students have difficulty communicating ideas due to weak voice projection and/or lack of preparation.
The background audio overpowers the primary audio, and/or little evidence of editing or improvement.
Needs Improvement

Audio is cut-off and inconsistent. Students have great difficulty communicating ideas with poor voice projection. No attempt to edit/create your own audio sequence.
Special Effects & Transitions

(10 marks)

Excellent

Digital effects and transitions are used appropriately and effectively for emphasis.
Good

Digital effect and transitions are used mostly effectively - perhaps too much, or too little.
Satisfactory

Digital effects and Transitions are overdone and distract from the content.
Needs Improvement

Effects and transitions are either missing or excessive.
