watering a plant

Student will assess whether a plant needs water and then using the proper equipment fill the water to the brim of the container and wait for water to drain out of the bottom. If the water is draining then the student will stop. If not the student will add more water and observe whether water is draining. Student will clean up and put all tools away.

Check for water	Poor Student doesn't use a visible means other than observing the soil by eye.	Fair Student doesn't poke a finger in but may feel or pat the soil, or look at the soil to determine whether the soil column is wet. Student may pick up the plant and check weight.	Good Student pokes a finger in the soil and determines whether the soil column is wet or dry
water the plant	Poor Student is not careful with the water and splashes and soil out of the pot. Student does not adequately fill the water to the brim using very litttle water.	Fair Student is not careful and soil has washed out of the pot leaving a large hole in the soil column or the student does not fill the water all the way up to the brim of the pot, but uses enough water to wet most of the soil column.	Good Student carefully waters the plant without splashing water or soil out of the container. Water is filled to the brim.
water is draining out	Poor There is no visible sign of water draining out of the bottom of the pot.	Fair Hardly any water or none at all is draining out the bottom	Good Water is clearly draining out of the bottom of the pot. Student has watered the plant enough to ensure that water is draining out
Proper tool use	Poor Student is not the tools and equipment in a safe manner and is using 2 or 3 of the wrong tools or equipment for the job.	Fair Student may be using one or two of the wrong tools and equipment for the job.	Good Student uses the proper tools and equipment to complete the job and in a safe manner.
clean up	Poor Student leaves more than two tools out and doesn't clean up or sweep up any messes.	Fair Student may leave one or two tools out or may not clean up the floor. Plant soil may not be cultivated	Good Student cleans up and puts all tools in their proper place. If water or soil is on the floor it is swept up. Plant soil is cultivated.
