GROUP SILENT FILM PRESENTATIONS

Students are responsible for creating a silent movie in which they add music and subtitles to enhance the mood of their scene. Students must act without words throughout.

STORY	Developing Little to no effort to create a storyline. There was no defined beginning, middle with a conflict, or an ending.	Achieved Storyline needs work. Either the beginning, middle or end was unclear.	Excellent The story was ABSOLUTELY CLEAR from the beginning to the ending.
CHARACTERS	Developing The characters were not defined and were hard to figure out where they fit into the story.	Achieved Most of the characters were defined and was pretty clear in who they were in the story.	Excellent The characters were well defined and it was ABSOLUTELY CLEAR as to how they related to each other.
FACIAL EXPRESSIONS	Developing The actors used only small or normal facial expressions. Actors broke character throughout.	Achieved The actors used some different facial expressions but at times broke character.	Excellent The actors used BIG facial expressions that were obvious and purposeful to their characters.
MOVEMENT	Developing The actors used only small gestures, body language and movements.	Achieved The actors used different gestures, body language and movements that were exaggerated.	Excellent The actors used WELL DEFINED, EXAGGERATED gestures, body language and movements.
MUSIC	Developing Music does not fit mood of scene.	Achieved Some thought was given to music. Music fit the majority of the mood of the scene.	Excellent Music completely fits the overall mood of the scene.
GROUP COHESION/REHEARSALS	Developing Group did not work effectively during rehearsal time and did not collaborate well as a group.	Achieved Group work was not always consistent by at least one student. Had to be prompted by teacher.	Excellent Group work was usually consistent and rarely needed prompts from the teacher. The group worked well together.
SILENT FILM ELEMENTS	Developing The performance includes 1 - 2 elements of silent film.	Achieved The performance includes 3 - 4 elements of silent film.	Excellent The performance includes all the elements of silent film: melodrama, slow-burn reactions, exaggerated slapstick to add humour, chase scene and a cliff-hanger.
SUBTITLES	Developing There were no subtitle cards used in the film.	Achieved There was at least one subtitle card used in the film.	Excellent There were more than one subtitle cards used in the film.
COSTUMES AND PROPS	Developing The costumes and props did not fit the story at all. Lacking appropriate items to make it realistic.	Achieved The costumes and props mostly fit the story. Could have improved it some.	Excellent The costumes and props used were well thought out and fit the story.
