3 rubric Create a Native tradition based Creation/Nature Myth       popup preview
We have explored and discussed creation myths...now it is your turn to create your own in the likeness of the Native Americans! TASK: You will create a myth that explains a natural phenomenon such as the reason behind a volcano's eruption, earthquake, echoes, rainbows, droughts, hail etc. As you brainstorm what to write, it is important to remember that Native Americans created their stories with a purpose. Everything they created had a reason. The main purpose of mythology was to explain the way their world worked or to help them understand mysteries of nature or human life. Your story should not only have beautiful language (personification, simile, metaphor, symbolism etc) but should also serve a function (explain something in nature). SPECIFICS: Your myth needs to be typed, double-spaced and be 2 pages in length. The illustration you include will be a painting which will be evaluated separately.

13 rubric Art - Exploring Line - Fall Still Life       popup preview
After studying the handout on the element of line, students were asked to draw a fall still life, using contour lines to create the shapes of the gourds, corn and pumpkins, then they were to paint the still life in watercolor paint to complete the drawing. The point of the contour line was to enable the student to create the illusion of three dimensions. The success of the painting hinged on furthering that look with careful use of overlapping line, drawing the mat the objects were placed on drawing a horizon line to keep the objects from floating, using creativity in the background to create an interesting painting. The time allowed for this project was a week and two days, thus enabling every student to have a chance at success.
