5 rubric Heroes, Gods, & Monsters of the Greek Myths Red Vase       popup preview
Students create a Red Vase poster based on the myth they research. Their Red Vase should include an image of the god or goddess associated with the myth and/or an aspect of daily life in Ancient Greece. On the back of the Red Vase students are to summarize the myth. Students need to remember that the purpose of the poster is to recreate a one dimensional model of what an actual Red Vase might look like and to teach the rest of their classmates about their myth.

6 rubric Create a Nature Myth-Writing Assignment       popup preview
We have explored and discussed numerous Greek myths...now it is your turn to create your own in the likeness of the great Greeks! TASK: You will create a myth that explains a natural phenomenon such as the reason behind a volcano's eruption, earthquake, echoes, rainbows, droughts, hail etc. As you brainstorm what to write, it is important to remember that Greeks created their stories with a purpose. Everything they created had a reason. The main purpose of mythology was to explain the way their world worked or to help them understand mysteries of nature or human life. Your story should not only have beautiful language (personification, simile, metaphor, symbolism etc) but should also serve a function (explain something in nature). SPECIFICS: Your final product needs to be typed, double-spaced and be 2 pages in length. YOU MUST include ONE of the 12 Olympians and incorporate his/her power or domain and one of his/her's symbols into the creation myth.
