About Me

My name is Kelly Gowdy, I am 22 years old and one of four children. I grew up in the small town of Bolivar, TN and moved to Middle Tennessee to attend college. I have been at MTSU for four and half years and will graduate in December with my BSN. During my college career I was a member of SNA and Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. Through these organizations I participated in many community service activities such as Ronald McDonald House Volunteer, Up Till Dawn to raise money for cancer and visiting the elderly at nursing homes. After graduation I plan to obtain a job in my profession and continue my education.

I chose nursing as my profession because nursing is about caring for others that need you and guiding them in a positive direction to being overall healthy. I believe that the core of nursing is the patient and keeping the patient in the best possible condition. I believe that the focus of nursing is to be available to patients when they need you and help them deal with any problems or concerns they have. My vision for myself as a nurse is that I will treat each patient as an individual and respect their wishes regardless of my one personal opinion. To live out my philosophy of nursing, every day I must remember this: my patients are my number one priority and I will keep their best interest at heart, my patients families are their for support and to keep everything confidential unless otherwise instructed by my patient. My fellow health care professionals are their to do their job the best way they know how and we can learn from each other, My own health is very important and will reflect on others, teaching patients how to keep themselves healthy means I know how and I need to be a positive role model.
